Walk into any book store and you will find a half dozen books
telling about the clothes that Jacquelyn Kennedy wore when she
was First Lady. The Franklin Mint has put out a Jackie doll, complete
with minutely detailed, authentic costumes. There are children's
picture books, TV shows, paper dolls, and fashion magazines that
display the dresses she wore.
Most recently the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the
Kennedy Memorial Library have joined to present a critically acclaimed
and wildly popular display of the actual clothes Mrs. Kennedy wore.
Many of the books bear cover photos by Arthur Rickerby.
The Franklin Mint crew studied his pictures before producing the
doll dresses. And two of Rickerby's pictures are contained in the
catalog for the Museum show.
To the right are some of our favorite images of Mrs.
Kennedy wearing the dresses and suits that have become so famous.
